Description
The UDN2981 is an 8-channel source driver IC commonly used to interface low-voltage logic systems (Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi) with higher-voltage loads such as LED arrays, relays, lamps, small motors, and solenoids.
Each channel can source up to 500mA peak current, allowing safe control of demanding loads. The chip includes built-in clamp diodes for switching inductive loads, reducing the need for external protection circuitry.
Unlike typical low-side drivers like ULN2803, the UDN2981 is a high-side driver, meaning it switches the positive voltage line — ideal for powering common-cathode LED matrices and displays.
